“Thank God for Atheists” (the site) was setup to encourage public discourse on the subject of Atheism and to highlight the faults made by people in the name of God. We realize no one is infallible (even the pope), and as such even Atheists aren’t always the picture of morality. Regardless, organized religion doesn’t have a monopoly on morality. We say “who are you” to tell us what is moral and right? We don’t hold your god in the same regard as you do. In your eyes that makes us evil. In our eyes that makes us different.
There are as many religions as there are varieties of wine. It’s a taste thing. Religion doesn’t taste nearly as good to Atheists as it does to those who believe in a given religion. That doesn’t make us bad people. Let us show you we can be good in spite of our disbelief, and open your eyes to the faults people in your religion have made in the name of your god.
Try not to take the site so seriously. We realize some of the things we might have to say about your religion might not sit well with you. Try not to strap bombs to your person and blow us up. Restrain yourself. Give yourself time to relax and raise the level of discourse through intelligent and polite discussion. We certainly don’t want to debate whether or not God exists. We have already made up our minds.
